Exactly How Much Hair Product You Should Use?

Sep 22, 2020

Are you wondering how much product is needed for one application? We will advise you how much to use without overdoing it!

Do you ever feel that your hair is heavy and lank? It may first occur to you that you have chosen a weighty product. Maybe it is not caused by the weighty product but in its dosage. Some of you may follow the product instructions on bottles strictly, but each hair is completely different. That's why we have prepared a guide for all types of hair products - from shampoo to mousses - that explains exactly how much product to use for your hair type.

Shampoo

It is not necessary to use a large amount of shampoo, even if you do not see a rich lather, your hair will be well washed. Generally, you should use amounts of 1-2 olives depending on the length and density of the hair. However, there are times when you will have to use more shampoo, for example when you do not wash your hair every day, you have a longer time between washing, which means that more dirt and grease will stick to your hair.

  • Fine hair - an amount corresponding to the size of the cherry tomato
  • Thick hair - an amount corresponding to the size of a walnut

Conditioner

Many women use more conditioner than necessary. Then the hair often looks flat and burdened. Generally, an amount of two raspberries will suffice for one use.

  • Fine hair - an amount corresponding to the size of a 50 euro cent coin
  • Thick hair - an amount corresponding to the size of the golf ball

Hair Mask

Hair mask is great as a weekly hair treatment. Therefore, do not be afraid to use a larger amount of mask than we recommended for the conditioner. It is also important to choose the right mask for you hair type, because in general, masks for thick hair are denser and richer, but for fine hair they are more fluid and lighter. Regardless of the hair type and texture of the mask, it is recommended to use an amount corresponding to one oreo biscuit.

  • Fine hair - an amount corresponding to the size of one candy
  • Thick hair - an amount corresponding to the size of a tangerine

Leave-In Treatment

Leave-in treatment is an irreplaceable part of our haircare routine. For the average person, we recommend an amount of a few blueberries. The following recommendations are suitable for fine to normal hair. Have thicker-than-average hair? Double that amount for each length.

  • Short hair - an amount corresponding to the size of one blueberry
  • Mid lengths - an amount corresponding to the size of three blueberries
  • Long hair - an amount corresponding to the size of two blackberries

Hair Oil & Serum

Hair oils are especially suitable for healing ends. You should definitely not apply them to the scalp. Therefore, a really small a pea-sized amount will be enough for you. What about serum? You can use a little more hair serum - double the amount recommended for hair oils. Don't overdo it. Serums and oils tend to be on the heavier side and can give your hair a greasy texture if you overdo it. Just in case you do add a bit too much, spray your hair with a dry shampoo to soak up the excess.

Recommended amount for one application of hair oil:

  • Fine hair - an amount corresponding to the size of at grain of rice
  • Thick hair - an amount corresponding to the size of a 2 euro cent coin

Heat Protection

Heat protection products should not be missed by those who often use hair straightener, curling iron or blow-dryer. Thermal protection can be in the form of spray, oil, serum or cream - that's why is not easy to accurately determine the dose per application. For these products, you should follow the instruction on the pack and start with a smaller amount and add gradually. And don't worry, even smaller amounts are enought for hair protection.

Volume Mousse

Although it may be your first instinct to put as much volume mousse into your hair, in the sense that the more mousse, the more volume, then you are doing the exact opposite. If you want to add volume to your hair, a really small amount, about the size of a golf ball, will suffice. Less is just sometimes more.

  • All hair types and lengths - an amount corresponding to the size of one golf ball

Dry Shampoo

With a dry shampoo, it is not possible to say unequivocally how much is enough for one application. It depends on the amount of grease and the purpose for which you want to use the shampoo.

  • Grease elimination - divide your hair into sections where you will move longitudinally upwards from the right ear to the left ear. Always apply one dose to each section. Then continue in the same way from the top of the head to the neck.

  • Volume increase - lean forward and cover the strands of hair. Then focus on the roots, finally massage in.

Wax & Gel

Gels and waxs are ideal for short and men's hair. Usually a quantity the size of one cherry is enough.

  • Fine or short hair - an amount corresponding to the size of a 10 euro cent coin
  • Thick or long hair - an amount corresponding to the size of the one plum

Hairspray

Hairspray is used to fix the final hairstyle, so it depends on what degree of fixation you want to achieve. Spray the final hairstyle until you achieve the desired firming. However, do not spray on one part for a long time to avoid hair sticking.
